Open Rhinoplasty

What to Expect
Rhinoplasty Recovery
Recovery from rhinoplasty is a gradual process. Understanding what to expect at each stage helps ensure the best possible outcome.
Immediately After Surgery
You will rest in a recovery area before being released home with a trusted companion. The nose and surrounding areas will be swollen, bruised, and tender. A nasal splint is applied to protect the new shape. Cold compresses and prescribed medications manage discomfort effectively. Rest with your head elevated.
First Week
The splint is typically removed at your first follow-up appointment (around day 7). Most visible bruising and swelling begins to subside. You should avoid blowing your nose, strenuous activity, and bending over. Many patients feel comfortable enough to return to desk work by the end of the first week.
Returning to Normal
Swelling and discoloration continue to resolve. Most patients feel comfortable appearing in public by week 2–3. Light activity can resume. You will begin to see the early results of your rhinoplasty, though the nose is still refining.
Continued Refinement
The majority of swelling has resolved and your results are becoming clearly visible. The nasal tip, which takes the longest to refine, continues to improve. Full exercise and contact sports are cleared at 6 weeks. You can expect to look and feel excellent at this stage.
